Autumn fire

A lot of central Sydney looks like this now. I had an idea a while ago that all the new buildings..especially the ugly ones should be covered  in  coloured glass and ceramic  mosaics..all designed by Melbourne's Mirka Mora.  It would work here too. But the city fathers would never approve and where would the money come from ? So we'll have to rely on occasional washes of gold and backdrops of grey to turn drear into delight.

And here is another taken later in the year...November actually ..and taken with the new cam

more signs

                                                                 A trattoria

On Spadina a May Day sculpture to stir the socialist heart

More hangers on....just

                                                                 Youth hostel on Spadina
                                                   This little gem.......
...nestles against the pink glass box
Now the site office for the development of what will kill it
                                                                  Ah!  Some sanity at last
                                                                               On John St
A very trendy boite on John St
                                                                         On Richmond

It really is remarkable that all the above buildings are so close to where we live. And there are hundreds more. So with the minds eye you can piece together a bigger picture of what downtown once was.

Second City

Finding more interesting sites within spitting distance of our place. Improvisational comedy troupe Second City began in Chicago in 1959, launching the careers of Alan Arkin, Barbara Harris, Robert Klein, Joan Rivers, John Belushi and Bill Murray. Since the Toronto branch opened in 1973 the Canadian comedy scene has been enriched by Second City alumni including Gilda Radner, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Mike Myers and Catherine O'Hara.

The Yogi and the Student

The study of yoga is a lifetime pursuit. My pathetic efforts as seen in this picture ........

Press Day, Toronto

Cameras whirred and flashes popped as we unveiled selections from PRISCILLA to the press at some ungodly hour of the morning. We were only in our casual clothes (alright, the shoes aren't mine) but obviously we conveyed some of the show's excitement because everyone was most enthusiastic! (Thanks, Jodie, for tracking down the pics!)

A new acquaintance

Posted by PicasaMr Will Swenson of "Priscilla" and Ms Audra Macdonald of everything else in Broadway theatre and film and recording took Sheldon and me to an Indian restaurant between tech rehearsals. And the butter chicken was beautiful too

University St

This street would have been lined with mansions.  I just managed to catch the last of one of the ladies before she vanishes.   Update... a week later...she has gone. I thought perhaps they might be saving the facade but it was not to be.
One grande dame from further uptown in Carlton St  is holding out.
