I honestly do wonder whether audiences actually all see the same show. BONNIE AND CLYDE has received such a terrible critical thrashing this week that the long gestating Frank Wildhorn musical is in danger of closing at the end of December and yet it is, in my opinion and that of a great many others, a hugely entertaining show with terrific songs, stylish direction by our dear mate Jeff Calhoun and crackerjack performances from Jeremy Jordan and Laura Osnes.
Melissa van der Schyff as Blanche Barrow will certainly be nominated for a Tony.
And Claybourne Elder makes a charming Broadway debut as Clyde's brother Buck. If this show isn't given the chance to reach a wider public it will be very sad and disappointing for so many talented artists.
