The best show in town is out of town in Millburn, New Jersey. A little musical which had a short run off-Broadway in 2012 has been given a big makeover at the Paper Mill Playhouse and is a delight from start to finish.
Written by and starring Steve Rosen (as Josh Cohen) and David Rossmer (as Narrator Josh), the brilliant original cast of actor/singer/musicians remains intact and Kate Weatherhead, Vadim Feichtner, Hannah Elless, Ken Triwush & Cathryn Salamone create a wonderful gallery of crazies who help and hinder Josh as he struggles to put his life together again after coming home to find his apartment robbed and absolutely nothing left except one CD: "Hits of Neil Diamond 3" (And, as Josh says, all the good songs were on discs 1 and 2).
Josh receives a cheque in the mail made out to him for a vast sum of money and he cannot believe his good fortune. Literally. Convinced there has been a mistake, Josh is reluctant to cash it despite the encouragement of family and friends, and spends the rest of the show trying to do "the right thing".
I found myself beaming from start to finish and ended up in tears at the joyous surprise ending. Only two more weeks to catch this happy treat.
I love reading about these little gems you find. I also love knowing that Toe Pick (below) exists.
