The PRISCILLA company was toasted by the Australian Consul General, the very charming Phillip H Scanlan AM (2nd from right) at the Australian Pub on 38th St.
I replied to his toast by saying that Australians have always had a strong presence on Broadway since Oscar Ashe came over with CHU CHIN CHOW in 1916 but PRISCILLA is making theatre history by being the first Aussie show to make it over here with the original producer, director, author, star, choreographer, musical supervisor, set designer, costume designer, lighting designer and make-up designer. I spelled it out to the assembled throng as if to kindergarten children and STILL people in the room expressed surprise that PRISCILLA was Australian (!) or said "What about 'The Boy From Oz'?"
I got tired of explaining that everyone from BOY FROM OZ got sacked en route to Shubert Alley and consoled myself with a party pie.
