I had reason to be in the East Village today so I walked to where we used to live near the corner of East 12th St and 3rd Avenue.
There was an entire building missing since we were here.
But there was a new mannequin outside the thrift shop. If tt had been with me I'd have bought it for him.
Tonight I saw a revival of NEW GIRL IN TOWN at the Irish Repertory Theatre which is a really lovely space on West 22nd St.
Based on Eugene O'Neill's ANNA CHRISTIE the musical version has a score by Bob Merrill and was best known for the celebrated performances of Gwen Verdon & Thelma Ritter who tied for the Best Actress Tony Award in 1957 and the choreography of Bob Fosse
There was good work from the cast in this pared down and revised version but I felt a little more depth could have been plumbed.
Margaret Loesser Robinson, Patrick Cummings and Cliff Bemis are all in splendid voice as the central trio.
The choreography avoided any Fosse cliches.
It is discombobulating to see Danielle Ferland (Little Red Riding Hood from INTO THE WOODS) playing Thelma Ritter roles. Tempus Fugit indeed.
