GIANT

The new musical version of GIANT opened tonight and I'm sure the press will have a lot to say about its faults and virtues. The piece isn't entirely successful but some of the songs are so incredibly ravishing and some of the scenes so touching that I found myself watching parts of the show open mouthed with admiration. Brian D'Arcy James and Kate Baldwin are wonderful in the central roles. There is also astounding work from John Dossett, Katie Thompson and Natalie Cortez.
Who knows if there'll be a Broadway transfer...I'm still bewildered that DOGFIGHT disappeared after a short off-Broadway run...but no doubt there will be a cast album down the track so that we can continue to cherish this beautiful score.
