Well, I was there when the billboard went up outside the Palace. No shoe, I'm afraid. And although the girls look fabulous you could be forgiven for wondering what the show is about. Nonetheless, we're UP IN TIMES SQUARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fantasy version that someone mocked up for Broadway World is still the one we'd all like to see...
It’s rare that I swear or display negative feelings about anything publicly however this billboard is absolutely shit! Talk about not making the most of what has to be one of THE prime marketing positions in the world. I have slowly seen the “Australian” in Priscilla chipped away at over time from the Aborigines disappearing (that was early on) , the Aussie accent slowly morphing into cockney, Kylie flicked in favour of Madge and then in Toronto Uluru disappeared altogether. Now the main characters of the show (the bus, the desert and the boys) have all but disappeared off the poster! Of course there’s no offence intended to the girls on it (I’ve seen them perform I know they’re fab) BUT as an Australian I would have loved to have seen the only remaining Australian in the cast, in the most successful Australian Musical of all time at least be represented on the Billboard. I shake my head in disbelief!
ReplyDeleteI apologise for my language and you gents feel free to delete this comment if it offends.
I often wondered why (other than the obvious) the print ads in Toronto frequently showed the three (fabulous) Divas and not the three leading performers/characters in the show. Is the gayest show on Broadway similarly afraid to show off its greatest assets?
