(tt) Went with David Barilla, my Toronto body carer, to see this little treasure of a show
Country music for the most part makes my toes curl up but the pastiche behind the music reminded me of "The Boy Friend" and it has the same sweet spirit. The cast were all splendid headed by
the brilliant Varla Jean Merman who Sheldy and I had seen in Provincetown in 2006 doing the Olivia de Havilland role in "Shut Up Sweet Charlotte"
and the very silly Leslie Jordan doing his schtick with a Texan drawl and a tongue that was ever ready for envelope glue.
The stunning Kyle Dean Massey with wonderful gawkish innocence and a voice to make you wet
I also loved the very funny and versatile Buckarooos with Wes Hart especially doing some very sexy moves!
Met the director/author/composer, Willard Beckham.
who was charming and cheerful despite the news that the show might not be going on. Hopefully an angel has landed to save them.
post script The show closes on Sunday. What a rotten business this one can be.
