Great to see the fascinating Mr. Rickman in a new play about four aspiring writers who pay $5,000 each to have their work evaluated by a famous literary figure. Of course he is ruthless and manipulative and divisive and relationships are fractured and there are tears before bedtime. It is well acted by a stellar cast including the wonderful Lily Rabe (Jill Clayburgh's daughter, below centre) and Hamish Linklater (right), and the sets as always in this town are fabulous but midway through the proceedings I suddenly wasn't buying the story developments and I suspect the critics won't either.
SONS OF THE PROPHET is still my favourite play of the new season.
