Took Miss Lamond to the Oak Room at the Algonquin for a particular taste of New York nightlife. Dave Frischberg, lyricist of such Blossom Dearie standards as "Peel Me A Grape", "I'm Hip" and "My Attorney Bernie" teamed up with one of our fave jazz vocalists, Jessica Molaskey (remember the Bucky Pizzarelli concert back in January?) for an evening of Mr. Frischberg's work entitled DO YOU MISS NEW YORK?
Turns out the evening was being recorded for a new album so you'll soon be able to hear the three Tonys whooping and clapping for brilliant Frischberg lyrics such as "Long Daddy Green", "Heart's Desire", an update of Johnny Mercer's "My New Celebrity Is You" and two knockout pieces about Dorothy Parker called "Excuse Me For Living" and "Will You Die?" from a musical about the Algonquin called THE NEW YORKERS. As always, Ms. Molaskey's acting skills match her vocal interpretations and for an hour or so it was as if we'd stepped back into the 1960s heyday of the Manhattan club scene.
And the night walk home was clear and crisp and blissfully close to La Lamond's abode
We're hep!
