DO40 Legacy Awards

I think they took the "Leg" part too literally
The Dancers Over 40 event was held at a drag restaurant called LIPS which sits incongruously on the East Side amongst smart apartment buildings and dentists' offices. Wouldn't think there'd be much passing trade but apparently they lost the lease on their original West Village location.
It was a "dark" night for the club so the attentive waiters were not in lashes and heels. The food was excellent and I was able to stay on the diet for a change.

and Harvey Evans
The evening was hosted by Richard Skipper and the universally adored Harvey Evans.

This year's honorees included Broadway legend Carol Lawrence and George Marcy who played Bernardo to her Maria in the original WEST SIDE STORY.

Honoree Larry Fuller choreographed EVITA, SWEENEY TODD, ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY and MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. Hal Prince sent a tribute via a video clip.

Norma Doggett-Bezwick began her career as a Jack Cole dancer and found fame as one of the SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS. At 86 she still does yoga and dance classes.
Composer (BALLROOM) and dance music arranger Billy Goldenberg spoke beautifully on behalf of Carol Lawrence with whom he has worked for over 50 years.
Beautiful star of A CHORUS LINE Donna McKechnie spoke on behalf of honoree Lee Roy Reams
Patti Mariano (MUSIC MAN original cast) and Donna McKechnie
As did another Broadway legend Leslie Uggams who was directed by Lee Roy in HELLO DOLLY at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston.
Lori Tan Chin, Steve Schachlin (back), Leslie Uggams, Patti Mariano and Grey Goose

The evening ran an hour overtime so Lee Roy, a wonderfully funny raconteur, was forced to keep it short but he did read a list of the women with whom he has danced. It was truly gobsmacking and included every big name you could possibly think of. Congratulations one and all!!
