A Good Start

The Bill Charlap Trio appeared for one night at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis so I took our "Eliza Doolittle", the lovely Helen Anker, on a date to show her around the downtown area. The poor girl has been slogging away in the rehearsal room ever since we arrived whereas I seem to have quite a lot of spare time!

A Day Off

A walk across the bridge from my apartment.

and there's a lovely winding riverside walk called the Mississippi Mile with cafes, bars and even a cinema!

I stopped for lunch at the Wilde Roast café. The name should have tipped me off.
The décor should have given me a hint
The autographed photo of Rose Marie on the wall gave it away
And the menu confirmed it! Great food, I'll be back.
Wandering back to Downtown.....

The old signs around town are a feature.
Now here's a place we should all visit for a great night out!
There are heaps of theatres all on one street, in what appears to be a gay district
And right in the centre of town, a familiar face!
She's gonna make it after all!!

Minneapolis

 Sheldy is in Minneapolis

At the famed Guthrie Theatre
This is what is known as the Warehouse District, now turned into posh apartments for the veddy rich.

The view from the theatre is spectacular

But unfortunately this is not the ideal place to be on the Paleo Diet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old Friend

When we arrived at the Fairway Café this morning to have breakfast with our mates, a re-run of BEWITCHED was playing on the big screens on the wall. My heart skipped a beat when I saw who was playing Samantha's nosy neighbor.
It was the late lamented Myra De Groot who most will remember as Eileen from NEIGHBOURS but who will always be my "Ma"...Mrs. Beckoff from TORCH SONG TRILOGY.

The Gumleaf Mafia

The Upper West Side briefly turned into Exhibition Street, Melbourne today when a bunch of Australia's finest theatre folk met for a bleary eyed breakfast at the Fairway Market.
Sharon Millerchip, the world's busiest actress, is coming to the end of a dream holiday and fighting to stay upright after seeing 473 shows in six days, and Glenn Hill (late of DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS with Sheldy) is finally using his winnings from the Rob Guest Foundation singing competition to check out what's happening on Broadway.

Musical Director Kellie Dickerson (L) is about to start work on the Australian production of ONCE, and Maree Johnson Baruch (SCROOGE with TT, FOLLIES with Sheldy, SHE LOVES ME with both) now makes her home here with husband and kids.
We solved the problems of the world then went our separate ways to conquer new worlds.
