Goodspeed 50th

Goodspeed frocked up in gold bunting for her 50th anniversary Gala last night
The little park next door was lined with tents where the invited audience was wined and dined.
Klea was resplendent in gold. She and I closed the Gala with "No Business Like Show Business"
Choreographer Kelli and Dance Captain Kristin
Catherine
Maddy, Brooke, Melissa, Catherine & Katie

Some stars of productions past returned to recreate their showstoppers. Andrea McArdle was upsteged by a "Sandy" who stared fixedly at his trainer in the wings, sat down, stood up, sat down, yawned, counted the house, stood up, sat down, shook himself violently after Andrea hugged him then ran offstage before her final note had died.
Frankie & Klea chat with Rita Gardner, original star of THE FANTASTICKS, soon to star in a new version of HAROLD & MAUDE by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt.
Louise Pitre, who played MAME at Goodspeed, was reunited with her adored Young Patrick, the supernaturally composed Eli Barker who is starring in a new NBC series with Jason Bateman.
Many of the DOLLY ensemble such as Robbie, Gregory, Maddy & Will were in the opening number, the Audition from 42nd STREET

Klea trying to watch Ted Chapin's speech on the monitor. The show was terrific, highlights being Noah Racey's ultra-smooth "Once in Love With Amy" (his new dance show PULSE will surely storm Broadway soon) and TT's fave "Old Man River". Sheldy didn't forget his lyrics in the finale which was all that mattered.

Three Strikes, You're OUT

GO ROCK CATS! Our very first baseball game!!!

We were organised by Daniel, our wonderful DOLLY director, who lives for baseball. That's Jaki, his assistant.
We were there to cheer on local team the Rock Cats in a "lower rung professional" Friday night game.

After heavy rain the day before the weather fortunately was perfect.
Most of the cast turned out.
Our director Daniel, Miss Ashley Brown and her husband visiting for the weekend, also Daniel.
Food is not allowed to be brought in from outside so Spencer Moses had to scoff his enormous sandwich outside the gates.
Our gorgeous company, Charles, Catherine and Jeremy

Robbie and Maddy
Of course we had to eat ballpark food...chips, hot dogs, bratwurst sandwiches etc.
Even Miss Klea who has been devoutly dieting couldn't resist ice cream in a baseball cap shaped bowl.
The Rock Cats are fine lookin' fellas
TT was particularly taken with this chappie
This was Rocky the mascot who was swamped by children as he was about to begin some sort of promotion and was forced to order them back to their seats. In mime.

The entire experience was actually really enjoyable. Leisurely, social, out in the open air, with lots of silly distractions throughout.
Like the three cans of shaving cream dashing around the diamond. And the pie eating contest, the free t-shirts hurled into the bleachers by sling-shot, Pleasant Valle elementary school having a bit of a sing, the teenage cheerleaders in disgustingly brief silver sparkly shorts.
This pitcher held this intimidating pose for long periods before letting fly.
Then as night fell over the stadium...

At the end of the game, a wonderful treat. There was a countdown...
The lights went out...
And this happened!!!
Then as we were leaving we were handed free samples of salad dressing at the gate.
God bless America indeed!!

First Look

Klea and the boys posed for press shots in the Goodspeed foyer today. These are the "behind the scenes" pics. Lookin' swell indeed.

Sunday morning

The Whistle Stop Cafe in nearby Chester has been recommended by everyone who ever played Goodspeed so our lovely director Daniel Goldstein kindly picked us up at 8 a.m. before today's rehearsal and took us there for a big breakfast.
Director's assistant Jaki Bradley, TT and Daniel.
The view from the centre of the Goodspeed Bridge
Some local lilac. Then I went to work and dropped my phone which promptly died. For a Luddite I was surprisingly disconcerted to find that it will take three days to get a replacement. I think I will miss the camera most of all, Tin Man.
