Stillwater

Today we were given a tour of Stillwater, directly across the St. Croix River from Wisconsin and a popular daytrip destination for its antique shops, bookstores and restaurants. Our hosts were MY FAIR LADY cast member Tinia Moulder and her daughter Josephine and we shared the jaunt with fellow New Yorker Alex Gibson.

That green stuff over the bridge is Wisconsin.
TT scored well at the first antique shop we visited with a Valentino cake tin which will soon be gracing the kitchen in Katoomba.

We restrained ourselves from buying the fresh cookies and watched them being decorated instead.
We had lunch at the Water Street cafĂ© which was very nice. I ordered grilled fish and sweet potato fries with a side order of creamed spinach but I had not counted on our proximity to Wisconsin, the Home of Cheese, for my creamed spinach was in fact a bowl of what appeared to be molten cheese dip with a couple of stray strings of greenery submerged in the gloop. There was also a small serving of white sauce with the fries which turned out to be marshmallow sauce. Ah, the sweet mysteries of American cuisine. Perhaps we should have dined at our namesake restaurant.
