Character Man

Jim Brochu has written the most splendid tribute to the heroes of his youth, the character men of Broadway, all of whom he had contact with as he started his career. Zero Mostel, Jack Gilford, George S. Irving, Robert Preston, Jackie Gleason, Jack Klugman, Barney Martin, Cyril Ritchard and his dear friend David Burns. It is also a touching remembrance of his parents and some wonderful character women such as Kathleen Freeman. It's a marvelous showcase for Jim and deserves to run forever.

The opening night party was at Sardi's and we were transported 14 blocks uptown by private bus from the theatre on 30th Street! (ABOVE) Jim thoughtfully posed us under my portrait! That's Brian Stokes Mitchell on the right, who will be King Arthur in CAMELOT at Kennedy Centre next May.

With the brilliant director of CHARACTER MAN Rob Bartley, who also writes and directs BROADWAY BACKWARDS.

It was another star studded event. I was sitting next to Joan Copeland, the wonderful actress (and Arthur Miller's sister) and got to chat with Sondra Lee, Marge Champion, Marilyn Michaels, Peter Filichia, Anita Gillette and Lewis J. Stadlen.
with Reuben Flores and Robin De Jesus
