The Gypsy Robe

By far the most exciting part of opening night for me was the Gypsy Robe which is traditionally presented to the chorus member with the most Broadway credits. I was thrilled to find myself standing between Harvey Evans and Dick Korthaze, both Fosse dancers since the days of DAMN YANKEES through to DANCIN'.
First, all those in the PRISCILLA cast making their Broadway debuts were brought centre stage to be welcomed...
Then a series of Broadway Gypsies stepped forward and announced the shows for which they had previously received the traditional Robe. To my delight, one of those was Pi Douglass who played Richie in the original Australian cast of A CHORUS LINE.

The robe was presented to ERIC SCIOTTO!!!! Our beloved dance captain and generally wonderful person.
He circled the stage three times while we all reached out to touch the Robe then he visited us all in our dressing rooms to bless the show. A fabulous tradition that I was SO thrilled to be a part of.
