Yazbek

(tt) Last night I went to the 92nd St Y Tribeca for their Lyrics and Lyricists tribute to David Yazbek. He  is noted for his jazz albums and for composing and lyric writing on the musicals "Full Monty", "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and the much maligned "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" which we missed by a matter of days before its early closure. The wonderfully witty director, Jack O'Brien,

who helped create "Monty" and "Scoundrels was the ringmaster and Patrick Wilson

the lead in the original cast of "Monty" led a wonderful cast including Laura Benanti, Sean Altman, Mylinda Hull, John Ellison Conlee and surprise guest Gregory Jbara who presented numbers from the shows and told great stories of their experiences. I learned heaps about what I can do well and need to learn more of in the very difficult and elusive process of creating musical theatre.   Oh the stuff that's on in this city!!!
