Darlo revisited

(tt) Sheldon and I went over to see his dear mama, Miss Lamond. He had not given her a hug since opening week of "P" in New York. We decided to walk half way from Surry Hills to Darling Point. Here are a few shots of Darlinghurst.
Seems we are faced with more drag
This was 11.30 on Oxford St. This used to be the centre of gay life here in Sydney
The lady on the left who I will not name was a star of Les Girls. She would have been twirling away with the woman who inspired the character of Bernadette in "P"

Lots of closed shops betray the hard economic times which seem to have fallen now that the gay scene has split into other areas

My namesake..Taylor Square
I appeared in a revue, "Four Lady Bowlers in a Golden Holden", in  this venue in the early eighties. Now a dance club it was formerly a funeral parlour
As you can see Pie Face is a global phenomenon. Sheldon goes in for the ubiquitous Lamington
Many a night we have staggered out of this pub after an opening night at dawn's crack. They were the days.

They can't seem to make this venue work
Once a famous restaurant, Balkan 2, it has gone under and is dark
The Bookshop hangs on bravely
Almost a thing of the past..a butcher
The Wall.  I don't know if it still a hustlers haunt but it certainly was in the 70's

Some charm in Darlo Rd
