Dekko

The Japan Society is across the road from the United Nations building.
The current exhibition (running until June 10) showcases over 200 art deco objects from 1920-1945.

Paintings, jewelry,  ceramics, kimonos, metalwork, screens, and wonderful provocative portraits of the "new Japanese women" of the period: rouged and lipsticked, hair bobbed, cool and sexy, sitting alone in dance halls or draped naked on chaise longues. Fascinating.
