The Lady From Dubuque

Signature Theatre's wonderful revival of Edward Albee's 12 performance flop from 1978 which originally starred Irene Worth, Frances Conroy and Earle Hyman. The play opens with a game of 20 Questions at a party as the host asks, "Who Am I?" The question reverberates throughout the play which deals with impending death and its effect on the nearest and not-always-dearest. Disturbing but at times hilarious the performances are uniformly marvellous.

The mysterious uninvited visitors, Oscar (Peter  Francis James, who played the same role in London a few years ago opposite Maggie Smith) and Elizabeth (Jane Alexander in her first ever appearance in an Albee play)
The macho, hard-drinking Fred (C.J. Wilson) and new girlfriend Carol (Tricia Paoluccio) who is not the bimbo she first appears to be.
The hosts, Sam (Michael Hayden) and Jo (Laila Robins), the married couple struggling to deal with the physical agony of her cancer.
Lucinda (Catherine Curtin) and Edgar (Thomas Jay Ryan), barely tolerated "friends" of Jo and Sam.
Is the lady from Dubuque really Jo's mother or is she Death come to take Jo away?
