beckett would have been envious

(tt)   Some pretty deep and meaningful poetry and images were served up at La Mama's Old Courthouse space tonight.

Some kids from The Sydney Road School have been working with a director and creative artists on  a devised  performance project  which came out of an intense writing workshop. For over a year the kids with a variety of special needs have worked up to two nights of performance in a professional space in front of capacity audiences. The results were stunning. Very Theatre of the Absurd and Samuel Beckett in feel the poetry and imagery were haunting and strange and very beautiful.
Forgive the quality but I took these through the lens hole and did not use the viewfinder

Maureen Hartley, who organised the application for funding of the project in association with La Mama is thanked by the cast for her contribution over the last months.

The extraodinary  Barry Dickens, artist, writer and comic genius,is thanked for his series of writing workshops
which eventuated in this evening's show.
I was in Barry's mad homage to a theatrical boarding house in his play "The Foolshoe Hotel" at the Pram in 1978. At one stage I played a frankfurter for which I created a prop...a bun holding a Ken doll with plastic lettuce, onion and tomato.
The poem written by this girl was brilliant!!!

What a journey and what important work was done to bring it to the stage.
