the day I missed the Queen

(tt)   Moments after I took this first shot Flinders St was cordoned off and I was forced across the river via the Queen St bridge. It meant I missed Liz and Phil in the flesh. Geoffrey and Jane actually were close enough to Her on Sunday to flick peas across the dinner table at Government House in Sydney.

Now this sign is all that remains of a residential hotel in Swanston St.  I'd like to climb up, unscrew it and attach it to this little cottage in Rathdowne St.

Ruby and Vi demolish a pie before burping their welcome to Her Maj.

One of the marvellous laneways  that have spawned the coffee revolution here in central Melbourne.

Degraves... On of my faves

This is off Queens St Bridge looking towards the awful Crown Casino
On  the opening night of this atrocity  a flock of white doves was released to the anticipated delight of the many children (read future gamblers) who were on the Yarra bank. The organisers had not counted on the 6 giant gas flames.... which are still spewing waste into the air all these years later... shooting up at the same time,  instantly rotissering the harmless creatures which then fell singed and bloodied to the walkway below. Many a visit to a psychiatrist would have started on that very evening.

Some knitted steel art work. I think this pays homage to the cyclists of Melbourne that kill and maim as mercilessly as their brothers and sisters in Manhattan.

Southbank. An enormously popular venue especially on weekends. Cafes, tourist boats and buskers.

The "gold man" takes a break. He explains to this young fan how he removes his paint after a long days posing.
