assault on the senses

(tt)    Times Square is a sped up version of the city in that it changes by the second. You cannot go there and see exactly the same view as you did yesterday. Some things are semi permanent like the lovely heads below on the old Paramount building awning and the statues of George M or the ball drop or the TKTS booth. But the over all impression is one of  visual chaos. There are now at least twenty video screens of varying size that are pumping ads or promotions in stunning digital clarity with no rest in between. The buildings that hold them disappear and you are left with never ceasing all-enveloping dazzle. And it is remarkably calm.
