Cindy storms New York

(tt)  Cindy Sherman, photographic portrait artist who stars as the subject in all her work, is featured in a spendid retrospective at MOMA. Her work is disturbing, creepy and hilarious.

 
 


These are two of a series Sherman created in the 70's. It is an homage to cinema. You can see stars like Bardot, Monroe , Magnani and even Rita Tushingham in stills from non -existent films. Each sparks your imagination to "roll the movie".



Sherman takes a swipe at high fashion by draping her characters in sumptuous creations by Houses such as Balenciaga
This is from a series in which the artist creates the sadness of wannabes and has-been starlets in Hollywood

This is my favourite of her nod to the classic painters such as Reubens and Holbein. Here is her Caravaggio
